Training Camp Notes: Tuesday August 1st

I have been coming to Fisher since day one; today’s weather conditions were the finest I’ve ever experienced. Sean McDermott was absent with leave this morning. Jordan Poyer had the day off. Welcome to Rochester, Kay Adams!

As is the case every year, the logistics have been sorted out and are running smoothly during Camp’s second week. Shout out to the volunteers in the orange T-shirts for all they do.

Speaking of shirts, the Jersey of the Day is a Redskins White #17 Doug Williams. Hog Nation is still out celebrating Snyder’s removal. I had a laugh over the wearer; he was Ed Oliver-sized.

The practice started with a little first and goal from the 10. On the scoring play Harty lined up wide right, came back in motion, and was wide open over the middle on a quick out.

A larger chunk of practice was devoted to positonals. As is often the case, the Mafia on the far sideline got a great close up view of the WRs, Standouts in a punt blocking drill included Ingram (he has flashed multiple times) and Neal. Damien Harris looks like the best blocker of our RBC in a blitz pickup drill.

In general, the pace of the practice wasn’t brisk, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some hitting going on. The hit of the day was laid on Harty by Taylor Rapp, nice to lead the WR, but not into a brick wall. To his credit, Harty popped up and didn’t miss a play. The Offensive play of the day was a 25 yard sideline pass from Josh to Gabe Davis, who turned it into a 75 yd score. Matt Milano turned in the defensive play of the game breaking up a beautiful long pass from Allen to Kincaid. The feel good defensive play was a Damar Hamlin interception and Canadian TD return (a tad out of bounds for American Football, but the crowd could have cared less). The two and threes got equal reps for the most part today.

Good days: Hamlin, Harty, Diggs, Davis, Rapp, Elam, Neal, Evans, Cam Lewis, Spector, Milano, Shavers, Oliver, Settle

Not so good day: The Offensive Line struggled, particularly in the interior.

Position Battles:

RG: Torrence and Bates split reps

MLB: Dodson and Spector split reps

CB2: Elam with the ones first, and it wasn’t DJs best day

TE3: Morris ahead but the job will be won on special teams in the preseason games

Last roster spot: I like Isabella to make the team as insurance for Harty

41 Days to the showdown with Aaron Rodgers!
