The Buffalo Bills went into Acrisure stadium at Pittsburgh on Sunday and defeated the Steelers 26-7 by running the ball down Pittsburgh’s collective throat for 249 yards, a record by any visiting team at that stadium. The ‘Steel Curtain’ was ripped down and exposed a quarterback who is a shadow of himself and a defense that couldn’t stop crying about Josh Allen being a dirty player. ‘SMH’ doesn’t begin to describe the power whining by defensive tackle Cam Heyward about being shoved by Allen’s knee.
Can’t believe I’ve lived long enough to see an All-Pro NFL defensive tackle behave like the worst diva wide receiver in the league. And it’s really rich after seeing the following little ditty about Cam Heyward:
Nuff said.
I get that most of Pittsburgh is feeling butt hurt today after the Buffalo Bills… more specifically James Cook… took whatever confidence the Steelers did have as a team and burned it to the ground with 32 attempts for 144 yards. Ray Davis also showed he had some stuff to contribute Sunday with nine rushes for 62 yards.
Coming into this game there were many questions about whether or not either of these teams would make the playoffs and it still remains to be seen whether or not one or both make the cut. However, yesterday’s win by the Bills gave them a little more breathing room, but Buffalo still has to face the Bengals, Patriots and Eagles in the weeks ahead.
What stood out to me the most on the Bills’ offense was the performances by offensive tackles Ryan VanDemark and Alec Anderson. They were outstanding with how they helped James Cook effectively and repeatedly run the ball around the edges. Anderson picked up a couple of false start penalties at the beginning of the game but then settled down nicely as the game wore on.
Josh Allen seems to be playing more like his younger self. Even though his 15/23/123 yard performance might seem pedestrian for some, Josh was more aggressive and animated than he has been during recent games. Allen was effusive in praising VanDemark and Anderson for their high level of play on the offensive line.
All things considered, this was a solid performance by the Buffalo Bills. They played complementary football for the most part and did not let Josh’s interception or James Cook’s fumble lead them astray. Buffalo’s defense, especially the defensive line and linebackers had a respectable day, holding Pittsburgh to a total of 166 yard of offense.
But that was then.
Next up, the Bengals with QB Joe Burrow and company at Highmark stadium flexed back to the early game at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. The Bills will have to bring their A-game for this one because Cincinnati and Burrow have had Buffalo’s number in recent years.
Editor’s babble: Hopefully the Bills will carry their chippy performance against the Bengals. Thanks for reading along. You can also find my blabber on Xwitter @RobynMundyWYO.
