OK, we’re happy Josh is happy. But we also recognize that any prospective spouse of Josh Allen is automatic royalty in Western New York (and now around the world!)… and must be approved by the cult also known as ‘BillsMafia’. Travis & Taylor may have their own king/queendom going on in Kansas and Missouri, but just ask Jim and Jill Kelly what it’s like to be royalty in WNY.
When Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld announced their engagement simultaneously on Instagram on ‘Black Friday’, they nearly broke the Internet. Social media was abuzz with commentary, and I found the chatter by the people of WNY interesting. Even displaced natives like myself had strong opinions about who we wanted to see marry the ‘franchise’.
When Jim Kelly married Jill Waggoner back in the day, it was the local version of Prince Charles marrying Lady Diana Spencer. We were all so proud Jim married a beautiful local ‘girl’. And despite Kelly’s distaste for Buffalo weather, he certainly found happiness and a community that continues to love and support the Kelly family to this day.
Though WNY cannot claim Hailee Steinfeld as a native, her personality is a perfect fit for becoming Queen of the Queen City. She is talented and beautiful inside and out. Her smile lights up everyone around her. Josh is clearly madly in love with her. Perhaps he took some good advice from his mentor, Tom Brady.
When Brady met Gisele Bundchen, he went on record saying he was drawn to her in part because she had achieved a similar level of fame, albeit in different career paths. They both understood the pressures of celebrity, and it can create a solid bond if both parties view the challenges the same way.
But therein lies the key.
Both parties must be able to put their own egos aside and more importantly… they better be on the same page with respect to the introverted/extroverted part of their personalities. If one party wants to be in the limelight and the other would rather take a dose of chemotherapy than live a celebrity lifestyle, it likely won’t work.
And this is where from an outside view, Josh and Hailee might just have the right personality traits to make a marriage between these two celebrities work. While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce both seem to enjoy being the center of attention, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Josh and Hailee. Both relationships might work well, but if they do it would probably be for very different reasons.
It will be interesting to see how much more Hailee and Josh share about their private lives as they set the course of their path together moving forward. Hopefully, fans will respect their boundaries as they share part of their lives with us. Hailee’s “BEAU SOCIETY” newsletter looks like a huge hit and a good way to share what they choose with the public. No matter how it all unfolds, we wish them nothing but the best… as this generation’s ‘royalty’ in Western New York.
