The 2025 NFL Draft ranked highly among some of my favorite drafts by the Buffalo Bills… and I’ve seen many drafts by Buffalo since the team was born in 1959-60. Many fans on social media are expressing their displeasure with our latest haul from the college ranks because it was dominated by picks on defense. “When are we going to give Josh Allen the kind of WR group he deserves” or some iteration close to this is all over my ‘Xwitter’ feed today.
Anyone with a pulse and a passion for the Bills knows over the last few years, Buffalo’s defense let the team down when it matters most… the playoffs. How many times have we cringed watching Patrick Mahomes carve up the Bills defense on their way to yet another Super Bowl?
Josh Allen doesn’t need anymore help on offense. To the fans who blab about bringing in top tier WR talent for Allen, I say he did just fine with the group he had last year. Another year for Keon Coleman to refine his skills and chemistry with Josh Allen and y’all will see just how productive Buffalo’s receiving corps will fare this season.
The knee-jerk reactions I see on social media remind me of the 2018 NFL Draft when the Bills drafted Josh Allen. The howling and booing I heard when his name was announced was the most embarrassing moment I’ve ever experienced as a fan of the Buffalo Bills. It haunts me to this day.
So on Saturday when Buffalo ended up with only three picks in the later rounds on the offensive side of the ball, you could hear the bellowing all the way to Wyoming. THREE corners, two defensive tackles and an EDGE rusher will compete for starting roles at training camp and I for one hope to be in attendance to watch the transformation the Bills are about to make with their defense this season.

GONE are the days of watching Buffalo’s defensive line get pushed around like daisies in the wind. FINALLY the Bills have a very large DT1T or NT if you prefer that description on the roster. I’ve become infamous on ‘Xwitter’ for five years of begging Buffalo to get a very large man in the middle of the defensive line. I would love the opportunity to welcome our 6’7′, 345 lb. hunk of football passion, Deone Walker, to our beloved team at training camp.
Hello man of my dreams!
Imagine a defense as productive as the Buffalo’s offense has been over the last few years. Instead of worrying about who Josh Allen is going to throw the ball to, how about a little ‘cognitive reframing’ and think about how many times Maxwell Hairston might get the ball back into Josh Allen’s hands?
One thing I’ve noticed after decades of watching the Buffalo Bills is that many fans today focus more on offenses and what they do, rather than appreciating how defense wins championships. What a defense can do to change momentum in a football game is so underrated.
So while a portion of BillsMafia may ‘kvetch’ about the lack of picks on offense in this draft, I’ll just smile and wait for fans to change their tune (yet again) when they see a completely different defense on the field opening day.
