Josh Allen ‘Click Bait’ Underscores His Life Story

No media outlet can generate clicks like ESPN with a bad survey of NFL Players stacked with loaded questions about their opinions regarding quarterbacks. And no QB in the NFL generates more controversial ‘takes’ than Josh Allen. So it should come as no surprise in the same survey, Allen was ALSO voted the number one trash talker. Josh’s response?

While many Bills fans were suckered into the click bait and outraged by this nonsense survey, I chuckled. No QB in the history of the NFL has been more unfairly disrespected than Josh Allen. It’s one of the more interesting phenomenon I’ve observed during my 60 year history of NFL fan-hood.

We all know his story.

Someday it should be made into a movie. From being denied a walk-on try out at Fresno State, to finding his way to the University of Wyoming after sending out 1,000 letters to colleges… and eventually being selected as the 7th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Josh Allen has done nothing but defy the odds.

The journey Allen shaped this young man into one who flourishes the most when he is doubted. I saw it repeatedly during his playing days at the University of Wyoming. At times he literally put the team on his back and willed them to victory. Josh loves not only the challenge of being told he can’t do something, he lives for being told he will never BE good enough… good enough for Division I college football, let alone make it in the NFL.

Since this challenge has already been met with resounding success, the one big mountain left for Allen to climb is to win a Super Bowl. He knows it. We know it. The whole world knows it.

Why does a nice guy like Josh Allen inspire such vitriol?

It seems too simplistic to boil it down to envy by those who criticize him. While it may be true when it comes to other NFL players being envious of Allen’s physical prowess, it doesn’t explain why the media reacts the way they do about his significant accomplishments in the NFL.

Some NFL media are former players who long to be back in the game. They may wish they had another chance to become as big a deal as Josh Allen is today. Josh is the kind of guy every mother wants their kids to become. “Be Like Mike” has now been replaced by “Be Like Josh”. Or they may just be jerks like Fox Sports’ Nick Wright who just has an abnormal obsession about Allen.

And while there is all this hoopla about Josh Allen, there are still the barking dogs who insist he’s not one of the greatest QBs in the game today. Lamar is better. Burrow is better. Josh gets the MVP honorable mentions every year but doesn’t quite have the base of support other players in larger markets get. You think he gives a rat’s rear end?

Allen tends to sublimate this kind of stuff by converting it to production on the field, or turning the tables with a tweet like the one above. Doubt him and he will show you why that is a mistake. He can never be accurate because he has bad mechanics. Allen blew that one out of the water.

Instead of being mad about stupid surveys and other click bait, Bills fans should rejoice they are still cranking it out for the sake of their paid advertisers. This kind of preseason chatter is just what the doctor ordered. If Josh Allen is considered the most overrated QB in the NFL, it can only mean good things for the Buffalo Bills.

Editor’s babble: Just when I think the cackling hyenas are finally quiet, they come up with a stupid survey to jump start the NFL season. Bring it on. You can also find me blabbing on Xwitter @RobynMundyWYO.
