It was tolerable and overcast in the bleachers at 9:30 a.m. ET, but when the clouds moved on it turned into the most uncomfortable day of a generally warm and humid training camp at Fisher. If this is a trend, more cooling options for the crowd would be a good idea. Those of us in the front cars of the train miss the air conditioned big top on days like these. The heat incident with Alec Anderson might promote more caution going forward. After all, the Bills play at night most of the first six weeks…
Missing injured:
Mike Edwards, Chase Claypool, Ty Johnson, Cole Bishop left during practice.
Rest day:
DaQuan Jones, Nick Morrow.
The pre stretching walk through featured a rarity…a Josh Allen roll out punt!
Some of the high energy stand outs from stretching included Joe Andreessen, Tyrell Shavers, Dalton Kincaid, Taron Johnson, Kaiir Elam, and James Cook. The rest day yesterday paid dividends for Taron Johnson and Von Miller.
I tried to focus on the WRs fighting for the last spots on the roster during Special Teams drills; Shorter, Shavers, and Thompson are auditionning, but Valdes-Scantling is not.
For grass, there has been an unusually high number of slips on the practice field, and today may have been the worst.
For anyone who got their first look at Keon Coleman today, you were treated to his best highlight yet on a contested catch in the end zone. And if you got your first look at Ray Davis, he has looked this good every session so far.
In general, the build up today to any real action was the longest since the 70’s Band Boston’s “Long Time”…
When the 11 v 11 finally started, we saw a nice quick pitch left to James Cook, a Curtis Samuel 16 yard catch over the middle, and a quick pitch right to Ray Davis. The twos and threes got equal time all day; Dorian Williams blew up a run against the twos. Kincaid made a sweet sideline catch the next time the ones were up.
The defense had the better part of the offense the rest of practice. Von Miller flashed vintage Von, which is a great sign for one of TC’s biggest questions. I have ceased to monitor Milano and Miller as far as health…great news BillsMafia!
Javon Solomon made a great play, but broke protocol in his rookie exuberence, running into Red Jersey Shane Buechele. Spencer Brown provided consequences in the day’s biggest skirmish. Rasul Douglas jumped a sideline route but dropped what would have been a pick-6.
I didn’t spot to many interesting T-Shirts today, but I did spot the best license plate of camp so far.
I felt much better after a shower and a Big Ditch Dayburner!
