Sometimes the best part of a podcast is the unexpected interruption. This week Danyel showed us why she earned the nickname ‘MommaGrizz’ after her daughter broke in while we were recording our podcast. I thought she should leave the unedited version in… and many of our listeners agreed.

Like the true pro that she is, Danyel did her duty in a stern voice and promptly returned to our discussion like nothing ever happened. I laughed like the true bad girl that I am.

However, the discussion did turn serious as we discussed the possibility that Antonio Brown’s recent bad behavior might be influenced by the effect of brain trauma in addition to previous behavioral issues. Given Aaron Hernandez’s autopsy after suicide at age 28 showed severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), these factors must be considered.

Danyel also shared her experience with her father’s change in personality after a traumatic brain injury. It’s imperative we find better ways to diagnose and treat CTE.

We also talked about news that the Buffalo Bills are hiring a sports psychologist (Certified Mental Performance Consultant), something I’ve pleaded for the Bills to do for over 20 years. I explained the role and function the Bills envision for this position and tossed in my own thoughts about the role as well.

Just for good measure we also expressed our support for Brian Daboll’s return to the Bills as offensive coordinator for at least another year.

Have a listen and give us some feedback. It’s going to be an interesting off season for the Mafia Mavens. Who knows what’s going to happen next?
