No one gives more from the heart than the BillsMafia family. You would think we all came from a Boca Raton zip code the way love flows in the form of money for compassionate causes in the 716.
Ezra Castro picked a favorite charity for BillsMafia to donate in lieu of flowers after he passed away earlier this week. ‘PanchoBilla’ wanted to help teachers and school children who can’t afford their school supplies with a “PanchosPack” knapsack filled with what they need to get through the school year.
Being mostly the descendants of immigrants looking for a better life, most Western New Yorkers understand what it means to struggle. The love we share so freely with each other can trace its lineage directly from melding perfect strangers into families brought together by a common language.
So it should come as little surprise to us that the descendants of these courageous people absorbed a strong sense of charity and compassion and passed it on to their children.
Showing the world how to take care of each other is the BillsMafia family living its best life. I’m so proud to be a native Western New Yorker because of moments like these.
We have our warts and challenges like any other community. But for all the negative press and belittling we endure on the national stage, the others who espouse their crap about us all secretly wish they could BE us.
It’s the easiest thing in the world to be a Patriots* fan – but to be a lifelong diehard Bills fan is to know the epitome of suffering. And because suffering comes in many forms, we embrace the wisdom that comes from accepting it as a part of life’s journey.
THAT is what makes BillsMafia special. I’ve never been more proud to be from our WNY homeland. Thank you for all who give so generously from the heart and so willingly from the soul.
Editor’s babble: I can just see PanchoBilla’s big smile with his tongue hanging out and saying “Viva Los Bills”. You can find me on Twitter @RobynMundyWYO.
