EJ Manuel started practicing again on Sunday when he got on the field to go through individual drills. Then Monday he took in his first full practice since his knee surgery a couple weeks back. Although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I’m still not a doctor so I refuse to speculate on whether or not he will be healthy enough to start. But I still wonder if he is healthy is he ready for the NFL, or were the draft analysts right and he will need a good amount of time to develop?
The good thing for Manuel and the fan base is there can be no complaining or debate about who should start. If Manuel has a bad game there will be no one scamming about how Kolb should be the starter. As soon as Manuel is healthy enough he will be the one taking snaps from under center. The lack of controversy from media and fans can do nothing but help a rookie QB.
If I’m honest, I tend to agree with the analysts who say he needs some time before he is truly ready to take the reigns. Even though I don’t think that EJ will stun in his first couple appearances, I do think he has the mental toughness to put his mistakes behind him and grow quickly into a solid NFL quarterback. And because of this ability whether he will be great or not in his first couple starts is irrelevant. Starting him now is good for the future of the Buffalo Bills, and I think the future looks bright!
