Defense. Defense. Defense. That has been the theme for the Bills this offseason, and Thursday night was no different for Buddy Nix and company.
The 6’1″, 190-pound cornerback is valued for his athleticism and versatility. Gilmore was a three-year starter at the University of South Carolina where he accumulated 181 tackles, 17 pass break-ups and eight interceptions.
Gilmore should immediately help the Bills’ inconsistent pass defense from a year ago. He is a solid all-around corner who is capable of providing run support, making big plays and forcing turnovers.
Earlier this week, Greg Cosell of NFL Films compared Gilmore to Charles Woodson, commending his ability to play on the edge or in the slot.
With the duo of Aaron Williams and now Gilmore, the Bills appear to their pair of cornerbacks for the future. Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix have both admitted Gilmore will have the opportunity to compete for a starting position on defense.
With a revamped defensive line and the selection of Gilmore, the Bills’ defense will look to significantly improve this season. In a quarterback driven league, the addition of a talented cornerback, such as Gilmore, is coveted.
If you have failed to do so already, be sure to give Stephon Gilmore a warm, BillsMafia welcome! @BumpNrunGilm0re
